Zool.
Zacarin,Giuliano Grici; Gobbi,Nivar; Chaud-Netto,José.
The reproductive capacity of females of Apanteles galleriae (Wilkinson, 1932) was evaluated in fifth instar caterpillars of Galleria mellonella (Linnaeus, 1758) and Achroia grisella (Fabricius, 1754) fed on standard diet and diets enriched with protein. The reproductive capacity of parasitoid females on fifth instar caterpillars of G. mellonella and A. grisella with variable weight was also evaluated. The host weight interfered in the sex ratio of the obtained parasitoids. In heavier caterpillars, the investment in female descendants was greater than in males, and in lighter caterpillars the inverse occurred.

Changes in the structure and pigmentation of the eyes of honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) queens with the "limão" mutation Genet. Mol. Biol.
Chaud-Netto,José; Cruz-Landim,Carminda da.
This study describes the ultrastructural differences between the compound eyes of ch li/ch li and Ch/ch li honeybee queens. Heterozygous "limão" bees had an almost normal ultrastructural organization of the ommatidia, but there were some alterations, including small vacuoles in the crystalline cones and a loss of pigment by primary pigmentary cells. In homozygous bees many ommatidia had very deformed crystalline cones and there were some bipartite rhabdoma. There was a reduction in the amount of pigment in the primary and secondary pigmentary cells and receptor cells (retinulae) of mutant eyes. However, the eyes of both heterozygous and homozygous queens had the same type of pigment granules. Certain membrane-limited structures containing pigment granules...

Number of ovarioles in workers descendent from crossings between Africanized and Italian honeybees, Apis mellifera L.: comparison among backcrosses and ancestors colonies Anais da SEB
Thuller,Regina H.C.; Malaspina,Osmar; Bueno,Odair C.; Chaud-Netto,José.
A comparative study of ovarioles number in workers of bees, Apis mellifera L. of 36 backcrosses colonies (Africanized and Italian), and stock, inbred and F1 colonies was carried out. No difference on the number of ovarioles in right and left ovaries of workers from the colonies used was detected. The hybrid bees from F1 generation presented from 2 to 31 ovarioles. The number of ovarioles observed in backcrossed Africanized workers varied from 2 to 56 and from 2 to 117 in the Italian ones. The range observed in these bees may be partially explained by the variability registered in stock colonies (Africanized workers: 2 - 16; Italian workers: 6 - 26) and in F1 colonies (2 - 31).

Preferência de Apanteles galleriae Wilkinson (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) por Galleria mellonella (L.) ou Achroia grisella (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) Neotropical Entomology
Zacarin,Giuliano G.; Gobbi,Nivar; Chaud-Netto,José.

Relationship between number of ovipositions of Cotesia flavipes (Cam.) and number of descendants emerged from its host Diatraea saccharalis (Fabr.) Anais da SEB
Yamauchi,Meire N.; Gobbi,Nivar; Chaud-Netto,José; Campos-Farinha,Ana E..
Females of Cotesia flavipes (Cam.) were individually introduced into Petri dishes containing one larva of its host Diatraea saccharalis (Fabr.). Each C. flavipes female was allowed to oviposit once or twice in the same larva. Time of emergence of larvae and adults, sex-ratio, number of non-viable larvae and pupae, and longevity of adults of C. flavipes were recorded. Data revealed that two successive ovipositions in the host did not affect sex-ratio, but increased number of parasitoids and number of non-viable larvae and pupae.
